Beginning of the year, self-help books flying off the shelf. Gym is packed. Local health food store a mob scene. Mindfulness meditation group overflowing. New Year’s resolutions abound. A middle-aged patient of mine, with garden variety aches and pains, fatigue and depression asked me, “Okay, what’s your secret? I feel like crap & I think I’m finally ready to make some changes to feel better. What can I do to be super healthy this year?” She wanted to know how she could stay healthy, feel vibrant and peaceful and creative.

Of course I spent a whole visit with her and we created an individualized plan related to diet, exercise, mindfulness and other natural medicine approaches for her overall and specific complaints. But got me thinking. Here’s a good- health punch list for the New Year:

Train like an Olympic athlete. Eat clean. Cut off negative self-chatter. Drink water. Flex your gratitude muscles. Eat more veggies. Forgive someone. Get chemical products out of your home. Limit screen time. Try fish. Learn something new. Fast overnight for 13 or 14 hours. Take baths. Throw/give stuff away. Cut off the booze & marijuana. Replace over the counter meds with herbs and natural medicines. Have sex once in a while.

And when 2020 rolls around, take a look back, how did you do!?
